Getting Started & What to Expect
· What is the difference between a Clinical Psychologist, a Psychiatrist and a Counsellor?
- As a Clinical Psychologist, I hold a doctoral-level degree in Clinical Psychology and am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Clinical psychologists are trained to assess and treat a wide range of psychological difficulties using evidence-based, scientifically researched psychological therapies tailored to your unique situation.
- Psychiatrists are medically trained doctors who specialize in mental health and can prescribe medication.
- Counsellors/Psychotherapist typically complete specialist diploma or master's-level training focused on talking therapies.
· What happens during the first appointment following our initial consultation over the phone?
Our first session (50 minutes) is an initial assessment. It is a chance for us to discuss what has brought you to therapy, explore your background, and outline what you hope to gain. Importantly, it gives you a feel for how I work so you can decide if I am the right fit for you. Even after this first appointment, there is no pressure or obligation to commit to ongoing sessions after this.
· How many sessions will I need?
Because therapy is tailored to your individual goals, the duration varies. Some people achieve their goals in 6 to 12 sessions of focused, short-term work, while others benefit from longer-term psychological support. We will discuss your expectations during the assessment and review our progress regularly, so you remain in control of your care.
Logistics & Practicalities
· How much do sessions cost, and how do I pay?
Individual Therapy Session (50 mins): £105 per session
Payment Terms: Payment is made via bank transfer or online invoice prior to or on the day of your appointment.
· What is the cancellation policy?
I require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a session without charge. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice (or missed appointments) will be charged at the full session fee, as that time slot cannot be offered to someone else on short notice.
· Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. I offer online therapy sessions via Google Meet, a secure and encrypted video platform of which I hold a business account with. Online therapy allows you to access psychological support from the comfort and privacy of your home or workspace anywhere in the UK.
· What technology do I need for online therapy?
You will need a device with a working camera and microphone (laptop, tablet, or smartphone), a stable internet connection, and a private space where you can speak freely without being overheard or interrupted.
Privacy, Ethics & Safety
· Is what we discuss strictly confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a core pillar of psychological practice. What we discuss remains private and protected under UK GDPR data protection principles.
There are only rare, legally mandated exceptions to confidentiality:
1. If there is a serious, immediate risk of harm to yourself or others.
2. If there are safeguarding concerns regarding a child or vulnerable adult.
3. If disclosed under a legal court order.
Whenever possible, I will always aim to discuss any potential breach of confidentiality with you prior to speaking with third parties (such as your GP).
